On Tuesday 17 December 2019, the Ministry of Environment and Energy organized a Consultation Conference on the Single-Use Plastics. The conference was attended by Minister Kostis Hatzidakis, Secretary General Konstantinos Aravossis and other representatives of the state leadership. Issues related to marine single-use plastics and the circular economy, the existing institutional framework for single-use plastic waste management, alternative management systems were discussed and good practices were presented in these areas. BlueCycle as a good practice in the management of fishing and shipping plastic equipment was invited to present by Mrs Suzanna Laskaridis, as fishing gear is included in the European Directive on single-use plastics. Using this material applying the circular economy principles consists an example of the potential for achieving Greece’s and European Union’s goals for the plastic waste management.
