BlueCycle joins forces with the architectural duo The New Raw and proposes creative solutions through the production of a new line of recycled plastic furniture, using marine plastic waste generated mainly from shipping and fishing activities.
3D printing technology, combined with a long-term Research & Design project, gives a new perspective for the reuse of marine plastic waste to prevent this material from re-entering the ecosystem, but to be “reborn” instead!
The 3D printed furniture made of 100% marine plastic waste will bear unique production features and they will be totally recyclable by BlueCycle!
The process is simple: the marine plastic waste is collected from the nationwide network, created and developing by the BlueCycle programme. The material will undergo appropriate treatment at the BlueCycle Lab, the only specialized laboratory in Greece for the reuse of marine plastic waste, in Piraeus, where is housed the first and only robotic laboratory for large-scale 3D printing in Greece. The resulting material will be used by a “robot” for printing high-end furniture, designed by The New Raw. Each piece will have an ‘identity’, unique features that allow to be recycled and reused not once or twice, but many times, depending on the consumer’s needs. BlueCycle will also undertake the process of recovery and upcycling of the product, ensuring the new ‘life cycle’ of plastic.
Unique design, 100% recycled and recyclable materials and “state of the art” technology and research, all combined in a product which aims to the next day of plastic waste.
